With trained general practitioners (GP), nurses and other allied health services ECU student health services provide a vast range of services to assist students with their health care needs. Some of these services include: †¢ GP consultations; †¢ Sports medicine; †¢ Pre-employment medicals; †¢ Vaccinations/ immunisations; †¢ Contraception and pregnancy †¢ Blood tests; †¢ Nursing; and †¢ Physiotherapy For some years ECU has aimed to provide more than just health care for students that are suffering from illness, and have furthermore developed programs to assist with health†¦show more content†¦Introduction Mental Health The World Health Organization (WHO), 2014 defines Mental Health as â€Å"A state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.† WHO stress’s that general health and wellbeing needs to be contained in constitution and therefore defines health as â€Å"A state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Mental health illnesses have significantly adverse impacts on the health of adults, especially on relationships and quality of life. It is therefore important that interventions provide broadly based help for young people suffering with mental illnesses. Mental illnesses affect 26% of 16-24 year olds in 2007, accounting for approximately 671,000 young people within Australia (Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), 2010). This extremely high number of cases stresses the need for more services within a community based environment where young people can connect with others, and be educated on appropriate action to assist with mental health care, aid with prevention and treatment but also provide alternative approaches to reduce prevalence of mental health illnesses (Sawyer, Arney Baghurst, Clark, Graetz, Kosky, Nurcombe, Patton, Prior, Raphael, Rey, Whaites,
